Acute toxicity of non-ionized ammonia on tambacu (Colossoma macropomum x Piaractus mesopotamicus) Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Quaresma,Fabrízia da Silva; Santos,Fernando Luís Batista dos; Ribeiro,Pedro Florêncio; Leite,Lorena Alves; Sampaio,Alexandre Holanda.
ABSTRACT Ammonia is a toxic compound to aquatic organisms and at high concentrations in water, it can cause various changes in the animal. Therefore, it becomes important to determine the tolerance of farmed aquatic animals for that substance. Thus, the aim of this study was to determine the mean lethal concentration (LC50-96 h) of un-ionized ammonia (NH3) in tambacu fingerlings (Colossoma macropomum x Piaractus mesopotamicus) in acute toxicity test. The fingerlings were exposed to ammonia at concentrations of: 0.09 (control); 0.54; 1.23; 2.52; 3.44 and 3.66 mg L-1 NH3, which were obtained from the application of NH4Cl. The test lasted 96 hours and mortalities were recorded over that period. The LC50 was determined by the Trimmed Spearman Karber...

Dietary supplementation with Arthrospira platensis in tambatinga (♀Colossoma macropomum × ♂Piaractus brachypomus) Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Ribeiro,Pedro Florêncio; Leite,Lorena Alves; Quaresma,Fabrízia da Silva; Farias,Wladimir Ronald Lobo; Sampaio,Alexandre Holanda.
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate different levels of dietary supplementation with dried Arthrospira platensis meal during the breeding season of the tambatinga hybrid, using zootechnical performance, haematological parameters and percent composition of the fillet, and by measuring the parameters of water quality. Experimental breeding lasted 64 days. The fry, with an initial weight of 3.56 ± 0.02 g, received diets with two levels of supplementation (20 and 40%) and one control (commercial feed, without the addition of A. platensis meal). The water quality parameters over safe limits were total ammonia (NH3), nitrite (NO2-), and nitrate (NO3-), which increased as the level of supplementation increased, but did not cause any mortalities. The...

The use of Arthrospira platensis in rearing Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) in salt water Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Leite,Lorena Alves; Quaresma,Fabrízia da Silva; Ribeiro,Pedro Florêncio; Farias,Wladimir Ronald Lobo; Souza,Bartolomeu Warlene Silva de.
ABSTRACT Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) is a euryhaline species which, in marine systems, can provide animal protein where fresh water is scarce. As a result, adequate water management to maintain sustainability is essential, and the use of a salt water recirculating system would be an advantage at the present time. In addition, Arthrospira platensis is used in the diet of aquatic organisms, as it is rich in protein. The aim of this study, therefore, was to evaluate the use of A. platensis as a food supplement in the performance of Nile tilapia in a salt water recirculating system. The experimental model included two groups, with four replications. Each crop had a duration of 45 days (control and test), giving a total of 90 days, with the control...
